For those who are interested in learning certain skills and in earning a National Certificate (NC) in only less than a year, TESDA courses are also provided by the school. Additionally, ZSCMST has a Senior High School department with available Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) strands.
The Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology, as guided by its vision, mission, and core values, has been actively contributing to the sciences and research since its foundation. It led the projects of the Southern Mindanao Aquatic Resources Research and Development Zonal Network from 1995 to 2003. The college also was one of the principal institutions for the National Research and Development Network for Capture Fisheries. As the only academic institution in the area of Western Mindanao to have programs in marine and sea studies, ZSCMST continues to provide such opportunities to Filipinos; beginning in 2018, students can pursue their degree programs without paying any tuition fee as the college is covered by the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.
